FRANCIS E. McSWEENY
Mathematics Teacher 1963 – 1996

For thirty-four years Frank McSweeny served Mount Greylock as a gifted and challenging teacher of mathematics, imparting to his students the discipline, rigor, and excitement of mathematics thinking. Frank’s obvious enjoyment of the beauty and structure of mathematics sparked a love for the discipline in innumerable students. An early and enthusiastic advocate of computer technology, he taught programming to the first generation of students ever to study computer science.

As departmental coordinator for many years, Frank helped define the mathematics program at Mount Greylock. Dedicated to the professional development of his colleagues, he created pioneering inservice courses on computer technology and was one of the first faculty members to bring in funding from outside grants. Frank served as the school’s National Honor Society advisor for many years. A devotee of theater, he directed and appeared in faculty plays and brought many of Mount Greylock’s annual student musicals to glorious fruition. Frank McSweeny’s long and distinguished tenure immeasurably enriched the school community.
