MARK S. GOLD
School Committee 1990-98

Mark Gold served on the Mount Greylock Regional School Committee for eight years, five of them as chairman.

Mark brought to the committee a spirit of collaboration. He was able to join faculty and committee members together on common ground after many years of tension and disagreements. He accomplished this because all parties saw him as principled, fair, and caring. They appreciated that he listened well, asked probing questions, and was able to simplify complex problems into manageable, clear issues. They also enjoyed his lighter side, looking forward to his yearly Grateful Dead trivia contests.

He used his many talents to make significant improvements to the district. He formed the community coalition to upgrade the football/soccer field, enhancing it with lights, bleachers, scoreboard and concession stand. The success of this venture inspired him to create the district’s endowment—the SEE Fund. His efforts elicited major donations from families, organizations and friends of Mount Greylock, and this endowment fund continues to be a major legacy for the district, helping it sustain educational excellence for all students.
