GUY A. DUSHANEK
English Teacher 1961 - 1990

An original member of the senior English team, Guy Dushanek was a scholar, a teacher, and, informally, a personal advisor to his students. He labored to make his demanding courses in American Studies available to all his pupils, holding them to high academic standards in thinking and writing. If anyone needed extra help outside the classroom, “Duke” was there.

No teacher had a closer relationship with his students or a more genuine regard for their personal welfare. He was always ready to volunteer as a chaperon, a coach, a mentor, a counselor – wherever he was needed. Always sensitive to the human trials and foibles of teenagers, Duke worked tirelessly to make life more rewarding for each of them.
