MARTHA DAILEY
History Teacher 1970 – 2001
Martha Dailey brought excitement to every lesson that she taught. She inspired thousands of students with her passionate ability to bring history to life. Her students "lived" history, whether they were "participating in" the American Revolution or re-focusing on Martin Luther King’s "I Have A Dream" speech. Martha had the ability to introduce something foreign and different and to make it meaningful for every student. She celebrated different cultures with her students, inspiring them to explore other lands, peoples, and cultures.

A believer in life-long learning, Martha constantly looked for new and better ways of teaching and learning. She teamed eleventh graders with eighth graders in order to facilitate the exploration of the Westward Movement in United States History. Every year her students filled the library with creative and intriguing visual histories that portrayed the dynasties of China.

Martha’s intense commitment to the worldwide peace movement led her to bring the National Peace Essay Contest to Mount Greylock and inspired two of her students to become state winners. Martha Dailey’s years at the school are notable for the vast number of young people whom she inspired to lead ethical lives with respect for human differences.
