CAROLYN BEHR
School Committee 1983 1996
For thirteen years Carolyn Behr served on the School Committee and for two years as its Chair. She was instrumental in creating an administrative structure to meet the increasingly complex needs of a growing district, especially in terms of budget and financial issues, and to ensure its credibility. She helped define, refine, and balance the roles of the constituencies within the district in terms of governance and decision-making to ensure that public needs and desires were met.
In addition to her School Committee role, Carolyn has for many years been devoted to Greylock ABC and the opportunities it affords individual students and the school as a whole, single-handedly leading the clothing sale and "room service" programs to provide necessary funding.
Carolyn insisted upon accountability from everyoneincluding herselfbefore the concept of accountability was in vogue. She was meticulous and possessed a purity of purpose in the discharge of her duties, devoting herself tirelessly to the pursuit of excellence.
