Farm G Crane

Phoenix

Take a right after the principal's office and head down the senior corridor. On the left is the cafeteria hallway, and just above the fire doors outside the caf is The Farm (Fall, 2003). It was designed by Kevin O’Connor and includes a cow (with pants!) and a ewe. The whole class decided quickly to let Kevin use his drawing ability for our benefit. There are over 500 pieces in this panel which uses a mixture of glass types. The unveiling of the piece coincided with the reading of Animal Farm in Mrs. Bradley’s class. She was heard to say that we would be creating a panel for each book that her English classes read. That’s a big order Mrs. Bradley!

Back out to the senior corridor now and down to the Bruce R. Carlson library, in which are three windows.  The Japanese Crane window, in memory of student Jennah Quinn, was added in January, 1995.   Jennah died of cystic fibrosis during her sophomore year at Mt. Greylock.  During her illness, students made origami cranes, with which her room was then decorated.  Legend holds that protective spirits will look after anyone for whom these paper cranes are made.  The Class of 1997 gives a Jennah Quinn award at graduation to the senior who best exemplifies the love of learning. The sky is clear baroque glass and the water is clear water glass.   The crane is opalescent and the flowers (artists' rendition of forget-me-nots) were double glazed.  (Inscribed names)

The Rising Phoenix is dedicated to the memory of the victims of September 11, 2001.  Since antiquity, the phoenix has been said to rise from the flames to symbolize a complete rebirth.  This window was Bill Pommy's final project before retiring from Mt. Greylock in June, 2002.  For all this beauty, we thank you, Bill.  (Inscribed names)

The "G" panel (Fall, 2002) was designed by Katie Lynch, Katherine Smeglin and Audrey Kalisz. If you look closely, you will see many of the activities that take place at Mt. Greylock in the panel such as track, basketball, football, music, drama, and of course academics. The panel is divided into four sections and each of the items appears four times in the panel. Quick math quiz: which types of symmetry are evident: horizontal? vertical? rotational?
