The instruction practices used by the faculty should be consistent with the school's mission and expectations for student learning. For example, if the school has an expectation that "students should think critically." then the instructional approaches need to promote critical thinking. Teachers might ask students to debate an important issue or to complete a project in which they recommend a solution to an environmental problem. In general, instructional approaches should emphasize depth over breadth, encourage active learning, promote higher order thinking skills, promote application of knowledge, show connections between disciplines, and personalize learning. |
